Bang for your Buck - maximising your IT budgetBy: Paul Beauchamp and Cedric Harding
Maximising the IT budget is one of the top pressures facing IT Directors today. Irrespective of size, many organisations that have strong financial controls continually find controlling IT expenditure particularly problematic. Investment in IT is one of the largest elements of expenditure that an organisation has. Company boards are under continual pressure to reduce the overhead of maintaining the IT infrastructure, a cost that can account for as much as 70%* of the total IT budget. * Based on surveys by Butler Group, Quocirca, and Forrester. Clearly the overall responsibility for managing the IT budget and expenditure lies with the IT Director. However, most organisations do not recognise the significant knowledge and effort required to maximise the savings potential and drive business value in the IT and technology areas. This white paper discusses why IT is different, what can be done to address the issues facing IT Directors when challenged with maximising the IT budget and provides an alternative concept to the traditional models of managing IT budgets and controlling IT costs. |
